Bentley produced their grand coupe, the Continental R, from 1991 until 2002. Inspired by the post-war ‘Continental’ and ‘R-Type’, the model was something of a departure for Bentley, as it did not share a body with a Rolls-Royce counterpart, something that had not happened since the mid-sixties. It was also the first to be equipped with the new GM 4L80-E gearbox. The 6.75 litre Garrett-turbocharged engine, inherited from the Turbo R, and a carefully designed, aerodynamic body, produced an effortlessly powerful motor car, capable of achieving 150mph.
This very fine example has coachwork by Mulliner Park Ward and is finished in Balmoral Green. It is a superb example of its marque: the interior excels with cream leather upholstery piped in green, complemented by carpets of the reverse colour way of green with cream edging. The instrumentation and indeed mechanics of the Bentley are as one would expect.
The prestige motor car was originally supplied by Jack Barclay Limited of London. The service history book contained within its original leather wallet confirms a full service history, with the last being carried out at 53,650 miles with a completed check list. It is worth noting that all servicing has been carried out by Rolls-Royce and Bentley Service Agents. The odometer reading is now some 55,800 miles.
The history file includes the handbooks and aforementioned service record book with wallet, the V5C registration certificate, sundry paperwork and MOT test certificates.
