Robust, easy to maintain, economical and with a good spares back up and support from several Austin clubs, the Austin 10 is rightly popular for many reasons. This particular 10/4 is, we understand, not in concours condition but is a tidy, reliable example and ready for enjoyable motoring. It benefits from good oil pressure and runs quietly on the road; mechanics are described as likewise. Bodily, the Austin is sound and solid, the paintwork is, we are informed, mostly original with some apparent touching-up. The interior and upholstery are original, but worn as one would expect from its age. The Hobson Telegauge (the original fuel gauge) is not working but a tank dipstick is supplied. The front bumper’s chrome could be improved. A new fuel pump and battery has recently been fitted and with safety in mind, the Austin is equipped with flasher indicators.
In 2016 the Austin was driven from South Dorset to Cheltenham for the Austin Ten Drivers Club National Rally, proof if needed of its reliability. The history file includes invoices, MOT test certificates and the handbook.
