1937 SS Jaguar 2.5 Litre Sports Saloon

The 2.5 Litre SS Jaguar was launched in September 1935, produced for just two years and was the first model to carry the Jaguar name. The earlier coachbuilt examples are easily identified from the later all-steel motor cars by their side mounted spare wheel.

DYM 180 was originally supplied by Henly’s of Piccadilly to a Mr Worricker, who remained custodian of the SS Jaguar for 48 years. Ownership then passed to the garage that had maintained the SS Jaguar since the 1950s, before the next owner (who bought it in 1990) set about gradually restoring the motor car. The current custodians purchased DYM 180 in 2005 and have thoroughly enjoyed the fine Saloon, taking part as they have in Jaguar Driver’s Club events including the 2010 75^th Anniversary drive from Coventry to Goodwood, as well as many local rallies and gatherings.

The motor car has clearly been maintained to an exceptional standard and we are informed that work has included a full respray. The original sunroof is in working order and we understand the interior and instrumentation to be original. The complete and original tool kit is present, as is a mascot.

The large history file includes a JDC valuation of £62000 in 2012, together with the V5C registration certificate, a schedule of basic costs and repairs since 1991 (totalling £8600), correspondence, a quantity of invoices, data, MOT test certificates, a collection of road tax discs, photocopies of old registration documents and sales brochures, road test reports, a Shell Lubrication Servicing Guide and a Jaguar Heritage Certificate. The sale also includes an indoor car cover.

Apparently, around just seventy examples of the SS Jaguar 2.5 Litre Saloon remain in existence in various states of repair, making the model even rarer than the SS100!
