https://www.dvca.co.uk/dvca-news-article.php?classic-car-auctions=DVCA-Comes-Up-Trumps

Dorset Vintage and Classic Auctions has recently sold a 1954 Fiat 1100 Millicento with a fascinating, documented history; its owner Julia Moore purchased the petit motor car in 1990s Mumbai before driving all the way home to England in an epic journey through Goa, Iran and mainland Europe. The Fiat’s new custodian will display it at his museum in Trump Towers, New York, a fitting home for such an adventurous and famous motor car.

Having been in the motor trade since 1959, firstly as an apprentice panel beater in Sherborne, and then later in business at his premises in Station Road, Stalbridge from June 1969, Brian Chant has finally decided to take things a little easier and is leaving Stalbridge after fifty five years. DVCA will continue and will offer the same dedicated, specialist service that their clients expect.

DVCA BANISHES BUDGET BLUES TO BRING A PROMISE OF SMILES

https://www.dvca.co.uk/dvca-news-article.php?classic-car-auctions=DVCA-BANISHES-BUDGET-BLUES-TO-BRING-A-PROMISE-OF-SMILES

Dorset Vintage and Classic Auctions are determined to bring cheer to both Old- Car enthusiast and Collectors of Automobilia in their forthcoming specialist sale on Thursday 17th October 2024.

There is little doubt that nostalgia can be firmly linked to the feel- good factor, particularly in the current climes. Consider if you can, owning something that was carefully engineered maybe more than half a century ago, a suitable vehicle if it is within your grasp, but even an article of Automobilia, which will forever reflect a very special era. Any of these should be found a place, in the garage, even in the garden shed, or man cave. Hang up an enamel sign advertising a long-forgotten product, put a period petrol can or paraffin container on the shelf or best of all, move that Teddy Bear over and give space to Michelin’s Mr Bibendum, whose famous guides will remain fine reminders of past journeys or just dreams of faraway places. Even restoring any of the above will give enormous pleasure in the winter evenings to come. Visit www.dvca.co.uk for full details

Not only is there a spectacular offering of vehicles on offer at Stalbridge on Thursday 17th October, but also the automobilia aisles are packed with truly interesting collectables. Where else will you find 127 period petrol cans, all with their correct caps, numerous paraffin containers and a Shell petrol pump? Enamel signs are well represented, and Michelin’s Mr Bibendum is proudly paraded in a variety of styles and materials.

A quick resume then to whet your appetite:

In the Pre-war selection find the 1928 Austin 16/6 fabric bodied saloon from a Nottinghamshire collection, the 1929 Buick 25 series 116 Phaeton, the pretty 1935 Humber Vogue Pillarless Saloon, the mighty, much loved 1933 Lagonda 3 litre Saloon, the sporty two seat 1937 Singer 9 Le Mans from the late Nick Baldwin collection, and the two finely engineered Sunbeams, a 3 litre sports of 1937 and an earlier 1925 20/60 short chassis Super Sport Drophead Coupe with dickey. For a simple winter project check out the 1937 Morris Eight series 1, four seat tourer, dry stored for 40 years recently run and with 4 new tyres.

The Classic Saloon range includes a 1954 Fiat 1100 Millicento with fascinating history, one of the three graces- a top of the range 1960 Ford Zodiac Mk2 from the Herridge Collection, an Australian assembled 1957 Humber Super Snipe Mk4, from Jaguar a 1965 Mk II upgraded to 3.8 litre, a 1961 Rover P4 100, an Auntie with older restoration story. Projects include a 1970 Morris 1000 Traveller boasting lengthy ownership and a 1979 Ford Cortina GL.

Sporting Chances on offer comprise a 2003 B.M.W.330c convertible, a 1995 Ford Escort RS 2000 ten years in current ownership, a 2001 Jaguar S a Mercedes-Benz E 320CD Avantgarde auto saloon and for M.G. enthusiasts we have roadsters from 1966,67 and 80, a C roadster of 1968, a high spec G.T from 1971, a mid-engined MGF in bright red and a later MG TF. Look out also for the Opel Speedster convertible and let’s include the 2003 Rover 75 Connoisseur with punchy V6 power, a rare 1991 V.W. Corrado G 60 and a Saint-style Volvo P1800 S coupe.

Farmer’s toys include a smart 1998 Range-Rover 4.0 SE with good history in 20 year ownership, a 1976 land Rover Series 111, 88” with hardtop and a 2003 Land Rover Defender-Double-Cab-110. The 1955 Massey Ferguson TEF 20 Tractor, probably ex parks department of Hampshire County Council deserves a nice retirement home.

For The Two Wheeled inclined, see the eye catching 1960 Ariel Arrow 250cc, the 1971 BSA A65 Firebird 650 Scrambler rescued from the USA, the 2001 Harley-Davidson Sportster of 1250cc an equally whopping 1100cc 1983 Honda VF 1100 V65 Magna owned since 1997, plus the 2020 Kawasaki Z H2 being just 998cc but with 16 valve twin overhead camshaft supercharged engine and two late entries, a Honda CB72 and an Ariel Leader.

Please watch our website for late entries. www.dvca.co.uk, meanwhile we hope you will find something to banish those winter blues and we would like to wish you a very merry Christmas which you may rely on to arrive as per schedule, just like the DVCA Team.

*Raising money for a project to install a Stained Glass Window in the 13th Century nave of Holy Trinity Church Warmwell in memory of those who served at RAF Warmwell between the years of 1937 and 1946*

Approval has now been granted for a new stained glass window in the nave of the Holy Trinity Church of Warmwell. Unfortunately, the estimated costs for the construction and installation of the window have risen to c£24,000 and so to meet the current shortfall in funding, a talk has been arranged in the Dorford Centre, Dorchester, to be given by Flt Lt Colin Bell DFC (Aged 103) a WW2 Mosquito pilot who served in Bomber Command. He will be joined by Flt Lt Desmond Curtis (100), who was a navigator on the Mosquito in Coastal Command. Together they will give talks about their operational experiences flying this iconic aircraft, constructed largely of plywood.

The date of the Talks is Wednesday 15th May.

Doors open at 1800, the talks start at 1830.

The cost will be £15/head or £25/couple.

Neither speaker will be charging fees, all of the money raised during the evening will be added to the Warmwell Window Fund.

Please email Gerry Gerrard if you are interested in attending this event:

DVCA DEMONSTRATE THE POWER OF THE AUCTION AT THEIR SPRING SALE

https://www.dvca.co.uk/dvca-news-article.php?classic-car-auctions=DVCA-DEMONSTRATE-THE-POWER-OF-THE-AUCTION-AT-THEIR-SPRING-SALE

There are times when a certain specialist item just cannot be accurately valued by even the most respected professional and really the only answer is to carefully research and describe it, then apply years of experience in marketing the article in an appropriate manner to achieve the maximum competitive bidding on the day of Sale.

So it was that DVCA’s Auction on 1st March began strongly with some 199 lots of automobilia being very well received with enamel signs running far beyond their estimated prices in most cases. A collection of mint, boxed model tractors made way over expectations and a similar lot of buses and coaches doubled their top estimates.

After a brief break the Motor Vehicles opened with a rare but aesthetically challenged three wheeled 1963 Scootacar, albeit the Mk III version with the larger Villiers 324cc engine and twin tailpipes, which had been tentatively estimated at £3-4,000. With telephone bids coming in fast and the Easy Live on line Auction system in overdrive, a final all- in price of £10,340 was achieved much to the amazement of all concerned.

From the same collection a brace of pre-war Wolseley Hornets and a Long tailed Singer Le Mans 4 seater, all in need of reviving after 50 years in storage, each achieved in excess of £10,000 and some 10% over estimates. The Eustace Watkins bodied car is off to a new home in France.

Other entries which were successfully sold include a mighty 2007 Dax Tojeiro Cobra 427 at £28,600 , a 1979 low mileage Daimler Sovereign with manual gearbox was strongly contested to £9,350 , a fully restored series one 1956 Land Rover ex Cornwall Civil Defence, made £26,400 and a 1949 civilian Willys Jeep in bright orange, £10,450. The handsome 1948 Riley RMA deserved the £5280 paid and that 2006 Jaguar XJR 4.2 V8 supercharged was a delight at £12,650 and may well be an investment if we are to believe that Jaguar plans to phase out their sporting models.

For the restoration lovers, a barn fresh 1970 Austin Minivan sold at £4,180, the part finished 1933 Riley Lynx Tourer at £12,650 should encourage an equally high quality completion. A sharp-eyed purchaser spotted the non – catalogued 1966 Humber Sceptre, which needed some TLC but should prove worth the £2,995 outlayed.

Further thought is invited in the said Private Treaty Sales department for the1968 Daimler V8 with very rare manual gearbox, the Austin A40 Sports, a totally immaculately restored Triumph TR2. The smart 1947 Triumph 1800 Roadster has unsurprisingly been reserved already under our Private Treaty Sales scheme, as has the Lotus Seven styled 2017 Tiger Cat E1.

DVCA’s next sale is in June, please contact us if you are thinking of including your classic vehicle in the auction.

DVCA AUTUMN SALE SET TO BE A TRUE CLASSIC FOR 23RD NOVEMBER

https://www.dvca.co.uk/dvca-news-article.php?classic-car-auctions=DVCA-AUTUMN-SALE-SET-TO-BE-A-TRUE-CLASSIC-FOR-23RD-NOVEMBER

When the country is being battered by storms, strikes, continual Covid and a cost of living crisis, this really is the time to have a classic vehicle in the garage or close by. Each of the DVCA team has something and would vouch for this theory. Smiles and a warm glow are quite attainable despite the trauma surrounding us. So here we offer the opportunity to join the ranks of the undaunted.

As Specialist Auctioneers concerned only with matters of classic motoring, we are delighted to produce a particularly diverse selection of suitable vehicles, on two, three and four wheels plus of course, attendant automobilia. Our website www.dvca.co.uk is well worth a visit and our regular full catalogue will be available shortly. All lots are considered worthy of Classic status, DVCA preferring to concentrate in small numbers of interesting entries rather than backfilling with ‘second hand’ cars to make up numbers. Thank you to our fine clutch of clients who have entrusted us with their collections, and to the families who have entered much loved pets and those of a departed member.

Firstly, after working through some hundred lots of automobilia we will turn to the motorcycles and what a selection! Pride of place we thought would be the magnificent Harley-Davidson as styled and built by the Bobber Brothers and actually having pride of place in the vendor’s living room. When offered to an ex Motorcycle News journalist, he remarked that actually he would go for the Motobecane Mobylette, which was so original, could easily be found garage space and could well be useful in the current economic climate. He may not have spotted the charming pale blue 1970 Vespa Scooter with Commercial Sidecar, which must be a first and ideal for delivering those Amazon parcels in an affordable manner. Between these two extremities lie a 1957 Ariel Colt, with its sibling a handsome Leader, a 1950 BSA Bantam D1 and a 1928 Raleigh 248cc. Larger offerings include a 1930 Scott Two Speed Super Squirrel and a well- engineered Sunbeam S8 of 1949 and a brace of Triumphs comprising a 1991 Trophy and a mighty Thunderbird. If you prefer to get muddy the 2000 Yamaha DT125 R should fill the bill.

Turning to the cars, the trio of Bentleys from the fifties deserve much thought. Considering they should make around half the price of a much vaunted electric vehicle, just look what you get. As progress seems to suggest slower speeds will become the norm, it would seem sensible to enjoy comfortable surroundings of genuine leather, walnut, plush carpeting and quiet enjoyment. An experience which should not be passed over. Any of these beauties in the garage must be preferable to a seemingly highly inflammable motoring device in which confidence may be lacking especially in the matter of recovery and repair.

On a less expensive note but still offering good build quality and comfortable usability, move on to the 1964 Vanden Plas 3 Litre Saloon, less expensive perhaps than the Rolls-Royce engined version but refined and rare. The 1969 Rover P6 can be included in these thoughts as can the spacious 1964 Ford Zephyr Zodiac Mk111 automatic.

Winter project seekers will appreciate the 1933 Riley Lynx on which much has been done, the barn fresh 1938 MGTA Midget and the worthy 1952 Riley RME Saloon, plus the pretty 1980 Fiat 124Sport Spyder.

Sporting lots include a 1981 Triumph TR7 convertible and a 1971 MGBGT, both considered sensible and very easy to live with. Not to be missed is the 1952 Austin A40 Sports. Remember that Jensen 4 seat coachwork, well now imagine a 1622cc MGA engine and a few tweaks and you have an interesting family mount with a bit of go! Cue here a thunderous roar as someone starts up the fantastic 2007 Dax Tojeiro Cobra, the most satisfying way imaginable to lose one’s licence surely.

Particular mention at this point must go to our dynamic and highly knowledgeable collector of Renaults who has entered a rare 1931 Primaquatre saloon, a superb 1982 Fuego GTS Coupe, much renowned in its day for covering large distances in great comfort, reasonable speed, but also quite economically and its really rare and gorgeous 1973 sibling, the 15TL Coupe in bright yellow. Along with these he has entered his 1955 R7013 Tractor which has clearly been excused mucky farmyards for many years and looks immaculate.

Whilst on matters agricultural, here is a fine looking 1982 Land Rover Range Rover Classic 3.5 from another private collection. Just arrived as we write, a 1958 ex Civil Defence Land Rover Series One 88” will be a welcome addition.

Speaking of private collections, we welcome from Nottinghamshire, two loveable lorries, a 1927 Dennis 2.5 ton truck and a 1929 Ford Model AA Flatbed, both ready for use, steam fairs and the like. So whatever we can do to help you embark on a rewarding period of classic motoring, or to simply increase your collection, we will guide you through the acquisition process, please do contact us on 01963 363353 or by email info@dvca.co.uk

DVCA CARRIES ON WHEN MARKET DISAPPOINTS

https://www.dvca.co.uk/dvca-news-article.php?classic-car-auctions=DVCA-CARRIES-ON-WHEN-MARKET-DISAPPOINTS

The great advantage of instructing DVCA to help sell your vintage vehicle is that their efforts do not stop if a sale is not achieved on the day of the auction. The market is a fickle element. All manner of things can prevent a bidder from making a timely bid on the day and often the situation is reversed sometime after the event. Due to the fact that DVCA not only exudes unbridled enthusiasm for the Vintage and Classic vehicles they handle, but they also own their own premises in which unsold vehicles can remain on display for prospective purchasers to consider at a more leisurely pace. There is thus no need for a prospective purchaser to give up on a missed purchase and neither is there any need for a Vendor to be persuaded by others in an attempt to gain instructions by denigrating our efforts, especially when they may lack similar facilities to recover from a failure of their own.

Our Sale on September 7th auction did produce successful results and in some cases surprisingly good.

Motorcycle enthusiasts should visit our Private Treaty Section for a spectacular selection of bikes, some of which arrived too late to have a real chance on Sale Day. The older ones seemed most attractive as both a 1951 Sunbeam S8 and a 1954 BSA Bantam found new homes.

The Motor Car Section saw a rare 1987 Renault Alpine GTA V6 sell at £18,700, a beautifully restored Rover P4 made a well- deserved £9,900 and a proper 1942 Willys Jeep was contested to £24,200. Little Gems included a lovely 1967 Wolseley Hornet Mk2 at £6050 and a lesser cousin Riley Elf will no doubt be refreshed by its buyer at £2750.

As stated earlier, the post auction Private Treaty Sales have already included a 1983 Ford Escort Cabriolet and a challenging Rolls-Royce 20/25 project. More available in this section so do please visit our website at www.dvca.co.uk

Maybe we are feeling a bit embarrassed at the moment for being British, particularly on the motoring front. There is not a truly British car to be had from new and most of us are driving Asian and Oriental vehicles if we cannot afford Europe’s finest. So allow DVCA to take you back to the heady, mainly post war years as we offer a superb range of Britain’s finest including;

The utterly superb 1959 Jaguar Mk IX Saloon with full history from new.

A 1968 Bristol 410 saloon, the true gentleperson’s conveyance,

From Bentley we have a 1951 Mk VI, an R type for restoration and a 2003 Arnage R,

A two owner 1971 Rover P6 3500 automatic smartly presented in Mexico brown.

A beautiful 1948 Austin 16 de luxe in gleaming black with sunroof, plus another for spares.

A very genuine Hillman Minx in lovely order and believed low mileage.

Cue 007 music as in ‘My name is Bond’ and marvel at the fantastic example of an air cooled three wheeled convertible of that name in British Racing Green.

We make no apologies for including in this category the pre-war Buick straight eight saloon which is right hand drive and made in Canada. We recovered this from a barn after 30 years asleep, clearly needing a makeover paint-wise but take a look at that interior! A quick coat of mat Olive Drab and it will be welcomed at military re -inactions etc.

The Motorcycle side has opened with a lovely 1960 AJS Model 350cc, whilst from the sixties comes an ex police Triumph TR6 Trophy and more recently the 1976 BMW R90/6 which has been converted to 1,000cc looks exciting. More on the way from Triumph and Norton, Francis Barnett and another AJS. On that note try and find a home for the Stevens three wheeled van as a later product from the AJS family.

So at a time when there is so much unrest and unhappiness and things taken for granted are disappearing or are broken, take comfort in the fact that the British Vintage and Classic Vehicle world is very much alive and DVCA will continue to try and keep it so.
