Debuted on the UK market by British Leyland Motor Corporation in 1976 initially as a fixed head coupe, the wedge shaped Harris Mann designed TR7 was thought to be a more modern style to the ageing MGB variants. The four cylinder Triumph Dolomite engine was enlarged to 2 litres and fitted with larger carburettors to give 105 bhp. The convertible model arrived on the British market in 1980. The spacious cockpit was much admired and the independent suspension offered a comfortable ride. Although there was initial resistance amongst original, hardened blood and thunder TR owners, the 7 has become a popular classic, being highly useable and reasonably economical to run.
First registered in April 1980, this convertible was purchased by the vendor in Jersey and repatriated to the UK last year, but the house move and lack of space forces its sale now. The odometer reading of 39000 is presumed correct as it is understood to have been a Jersey resident for all of its life, although there is no paperwork to substantiate this. During the current ownership, the Triumph has had extensive work carried out to the engine, as well as a replacement interior, restored (original) road wheels and a new hood earlier this year; we are told that the total expenditure in the last three years has been £2500. Cosmetically, the sports car is now described as being in good order, with a very smart interior, body and paintwork (apart from some stone chips at the front end). We are told that mechanically, it is good and there are no known faults - it drives well and as the TR7 is a convertible, it’s certainly ready for a summer of motoring.
A V5C registration certificate is supplied, together with a hood cover.
ADDENDUM: There is an intermittent fault with the pop-up headlamps and the hazzards do not work.
