The 420, along with its badge engineered sibling the Daimler Sovereign, was launched in 1966. It was an evolution of the S-Type and part of Jaguar’s ‘compact sporting saloons’, sharing the same floorpan as its predecessors. The quadruple headlamp nose was similar to the Mk X (rebranded as the 420G), but the 420 also benefitted from a cross-flow radiator, a dual-line hydraulic braking system, twin 2 inch SU carburettors, an alternator and limited slip differential units.
We are informed that this 1967 example was the subject of a respray in 2015. The original upholstery is described as fair and the headlining, that was replaced three years ago, remains in good condition. The mechanical aspect is described as being good and we understand the exhaust system to be stainless steel. The vendor purchased the motor car four years ago but a change in circumstances has prompted the sale. Now a rare model and worth preserving, this 420 is supplied with a quantity of invoices and the V5C registration certificate.
