The Super Minx roared onto Britain’s roads in 1961 and certainly epitomised that forward-looking decade. Powered by a 1592cc with a top speed of 80mph, the family motor car was offered initially in saloon form but was joined the following year by an estate and then a convertible. The latter had a production run of just two years and has now become a rare motor car indeed.
This Convertible Super Minx was supplied new by Jack Miles Ltd of Harnham Garage in Salisbury. With just four owners in total, the Minx has resided in the current ownership for twenty four years and was the subject of a sympathetic restoration several years ago. Whilst retaining the majority of the original panels, the underside of the motor car was cleaned and rustproofed, and the bodywork was resprayed in the original colour. The original upholstery, of red with white piping and matching red carpets, is present; interestingly, an original eight track player is fitted and is in working order. The Hillman has its original hood in serviceable condition, sits on Radial Ply tyres, and the instrumentation is in working order. The vendor informs us that the mechanics are good and the 1600cc engine runs like the proverbial sewing machine!
The history file contains the original owner’s service book, service sheets in the original Shell folder, an original handbook, a quantity of MOT test certificates, a V5 document, the V5C registration certificate and two restoration photographs.
