The 105E was the final version of a series of Anglia models originally introduced by Ford in late 1939. The 105E followed on from the 100E introduced in 1953, and was in production from 1959 to 1967. It was available in two door saloon, three door estate car and van versions, with basic and deluxe standards of trim. The styling was American influenced with sweeping nose line, prominent eye headlamps, muted tail fins, and distinctive inward sloping rear window on the saloon version. The 105E was powered by a new overhead valve four cylinder ‘Kent’ engine of 997 cc, mated to a new four speed manual gearbox with synchromesh on the top three ratios. The ‘Super’ arrived in 1962 and benefitted from a 1197cc engine, two tone paintwork, full wheel trims, an improved interior and a different front grille. Total production of all versions of the 105E was just over one million units.
This particular Anglia Super was supplied new by Ford Main Dealers F. English Ltd of Bournemouth. It has had just four previous owners (two of which were members of the same family) and the motor car has been in its current custodianship for six years.
We are informed that in early 2005, the Anglia was the subject of a photographic strip-down (the bodywork underneath was apparently solid), respray and mechanical overhaul. The overhaul included an engine rebuild and re-bore, and the reconditioning of the cylinder head. The front and rear suspension was removed and checked, the braking system was overhauled and all brake lines renewed in copper, a stainless steel exhaust system was fitted and so on.
In 2015, during the current ownership, the Anglia was the subject of a light restoration and respray in its original colours. Again, the bodywork was in good sound condition, but the paintwork had lost its lustre. Hence the respray, but as the vendor puts it: the work was to refresh the motor car, not restore it. The mileage of 54600 is believed to be correct.
It is fair to say that it would appear that all of the Anglia’s custodians have cosseted this very nice example. We understand that all panelwork and the interior of the Anglia remain original.
FRU 823D is supplied with the aforementioned photographs, MOT test certificates dating back to 1986, old road tax discs, the original handbook, a factory parts list, a Pearson’s service book, invoices, hand written notes of expenditure, the RF60 registration book, two V5 documents and the current V5C registration certificate.
