The Austin Seven motor car has been with us just short of 100 years, when it will deservedly gain antique status. This particular Saloon is a mere 86 years old and remains as much a delight as always. Clearly restoration has been carried out in the past and the red and black paintwork is in good order. Purists will frown at the brass headlamps and radiator surround, but the overall effect is charming. The interior is very tidy and a sliding sunshine roof is an appealing feature.
The 747cc side valve engine drives through a manual gearbox as normal. The motor car is part of a private collection of some five Austin Sevens, for which just one battery was available at the time of inspection. Technically offered therefore as a non-runner, there seems little doubt that if it leaves our new sale venue on Thursday, it should be ready for a run to the pub by Sunday lunchtime, with just a little fettling, some fresh petrol and a new battery. Failing that, given the excellent support of spares and advice from Austin Seven Club members, it may take until the following weekend.
There is nothing like an Austin Seven to make new friends and explore the pleasures of the lanes and byways of rural England. A V5C registration certificate accompanies the car, a VE60 registration book and various old MOT test certificates. The motor car is currently on sorn.
